The correct use: anti-rust paint

On this page you will learn how to use anti-rust paint correctly.

You need:

Preparation

  • The consumption of the anti-rust paint is on average around 6-7 l/sqm. However, this information may vary if you use thinner or apply thicker layers.
  • The processing and especially the drying of the rust protection paint should take place at temperatures of at least 10°C. This recommendation refers to the paint material, the substrate and the ambient temperature during processing and the subsequent drying and curing time.
  • Before you start painting, the surface must be sanded and cleaned thoroughly. Important: Do not use soapy cleaners or scouring milk. These are made from fatty acids and are therefore not suitable for dissolving fat. The surface to be coated should be dry and free of grease, silicone and wax. Old paint or rust should definitely be removed and sanded out before applying the anti-rust paint.
  • Before applying the paint, all sources of dust should be removed and the surfaces that are not to be coated should be masked with painter's tape. The paint should be stirred well before use. A primer is not necessary.

Processing

  1. If desired, dilute the rust protection paint with approx. 5-10% thinner.
  2. Apply the paint either by spraying, rolling or brushing. It is recommended to do 1-2 coats.
  3. The paint is dust dry after about 2-3 hours, after about 12 hours a additional coat can be applied.
